Sequela, usually used in medical terms, is a resulting outcome from a sequence of events. In a nutshell, Sequela means consequences. The choices we make every day have long-lasting consequences for our environment, though we have the power to determine the weight of those consequences. Sometimes it feels all doom & gloom when it comes to climate change. It’s easy to think no role we play will be significant. But we believe every choice is significant, no matter how big or small.
“Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want.” - Anna Lappe
We are two young Australians passionate about the current climate crisis who want to create change.
As much as we would love to tell you we are some kind of super eco-warriors, that would be far from the truth. Like many Australians, we cared about climate change but didn’t really associate it with the choices we were making day in and day out. Things like forgetting reusable bags at the supermarket, shopping fast-fashion, throwing out food we’d forgotten about and just using a hell of a lot more single-use plastic than we needed to. The turning point for us was the David Attenborough series ‘Our Planet’. We are both huge David Attenborough fans (who isn’t!?) Something about the beautiful yet confronting documentary really spoke to us - the message became impossible to ignore!
At that moment we decided we needed to change our attitudes and our lifestyle choices. We began to shop more mindfully to minimise our consumption of single-use plastics, composting to reduce waste, and growing whatever food we could at home. Once we got started we realised that we had heaps of room to improve. So, we began the search to find sustainable options for the products we used the most. We were so excited to discover that there was incredible variety out there, and loads of awesome brands prioritising sustainability. We thought it would be great if there were a place we could find all of our sustainable product needs - and so we created Sequela.
We believe the way forward is to change consumer habits, and to do that, we need to become more educated. It is for this reason we release a regular blog with all the information we are learn along the way.
Don’t get us wrong, we are still far from super eco-warriors, but we are committed to educating ourselves and making the choice to do better for our environment.
